NTT Docomo App store
today's post doesn't have much to do with my usual posted content, but because I just read about it I thought I will post it.
The article I just read was about a NTT Docomo app store, which is offering about 1,200 apps, one million of music titles and about 30,000 eBooks since December 6th for featured Docomo phones.
Well, actually it is nothing completely new because you were able to download music titles, movies and apps since about 9 or 10 years by Japanese cellphones, but the number of offered apps by companies, etc increased a lot in the last few years, especially with the development of the iPhone and it's App store.
The new app store for Docomo customers gives individual developers or companies the chance of offering apps and other content to about 55 million docomo users in Japan, just like the Apple App store for the iPod or iPhone, which became more and more popular worldwide, also the interest in owning a iPhone increased in Japan not only because of it's App store. But I think if people are about to buy a new cell phone it shall be offering a lot things for its owner's life and business and there aren't that much smart phones yet offering that huge numbers of apps like the apple App store does. And they are increasing rapidly.
Another point to mention is that Docomo's apps will only work by using the i-mode, which means you have to be online for using a App, which isn't such a great problem since i-mode fees are less than other internet fees of cellphones in Europe or America. But could be some kind of disadvantage if you're traveling underground.
I didn't try this new app store yet, because I don't need anything else. The only thing I'm missing is that "Felica"isn't included in my cell phone, but that not only surprised my boyfriend. Whatever. I'm using my cell phone just for writing e-mails and phoning, so I don't need a lot of Apps. Not yet.
